Romania: Growth in industry decelerates again in November

January 14, 2015

According to preliminary estimates, industrial output in November rose 2.8% over the same month of the previous year, which was down from the revised 4.3% observed in October (previously estimated: +3.7% year-on-year). According to the National Institute of Statistics, November’s figure came as a result of an expansion in manufacturing, which more than offset the contraction registered in both mining and quarrying, and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning,

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production fell 0.8% in November, which contrasted the 0.4% rise tallied in October. Annual average growth in industrial production edged down from 7.5% in October to 7.2% in November, which marked the lowest reading in a year.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 6.9% in 2015, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s estimate. The panel estimates that industrial output will increase 5.9% in 2016.
