Romania: Economy accelerates in Q4

In the fourth quarter, the economy expanded 4.7% over the same period of last year, according to a preliminary estimate released on 14 February. The figure marked an acceleration from Q3’s 4.3% expansion and met market expectations. For 2016 as a whole, GDP grew 4.8%, which is in line with FocusEconomics’ panelists’ projections.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP growth adjusted for seasonal effects accelerated to 1.3% in Q4, up from Q3’s reading of 0.5%. The Statistical Office (INSSE) will release more detailed data on 7 March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to grow 3.7% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2018, the panel expects the economy to expand 3.3%.
