Romania: Economy accelerates in Q3

November 14, 2017

In the third quarter, the economy expanded a buoyant 8.8% over the same period of last year, according to a preliminary estimate released on 14 November. The figure marked an acceleration from Q2’s 6.1% expansion and vastly overshot market expectations of a slowdown to a 5.8% expansion.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP growth adjusted for seasonal effects increased 2.6% in Q3, up from Q2’s 2.0% expansion. The Statistical Office (INSSE) will release more detailed data on 5 December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to grow 4.0% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2019, the panel expects the economy to expand 3.5%.
