Portugal: Industrial production swings to expansion in November

January 13, 2017

In November, industrial production increased 1.6% from the same month of the previous year, which contrasted the 0.5% decrease seen in October. November’s increase was mainly caused by a double-digit expansion in the electricity, gas and water sector as well as by the rebound in the mining sector. However, the manufacturing sector contracted again in November.

Annual average growth in industrial production was stable at October’s 0.7% in November.

On a seasonally-adjusted month-on-month basis, in November, industrial production contracted 0.8%, which contrasted the 1.4% increase observed in the previous month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to rise 1.0% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panel participants expect industrial output to expand 1.4%.
