Portugal: Industrial production decelerates in August
September 30, 2015
In August, industrial production increased 1.8% over the same month last year, which was below the 3.1% rise recorded in July and marked a four-month low. According to Statistics Portugal (INE), August’s deceleration in industrial output was the result of a contraction in manufacturing as well as a slowdown in electricity, gas and steam, which more than offset an improvement in mining.
Compared to the previous month, industrial output fell a seasonally-adjusted 2.2% in August. The result contrasted the 1.5% increase tallied in July. Annual average growth in industrial production remained stable in August at July’s 0.8%.
