Portugal: Industrial production accelerates in September

October 30, 2015

In September, industrial production increased 3.8% over the same month last year, which was above the 1.2% rise recorded in August and marked a six-month high. According to Statistics Portugal (INE), September’s acceleration in industrial output was the result of improvements in manufacturing as well as in electricity, gas and steam, which more than offset a deterioration in mining.

Compared to the previous month, industrial output fell a seasonally-adjusted 0.5% in September. The result was above the 3.0% decrease tallied in August. Annual average growth in industrial production inched up from August’s 0.7% to 1.2% in September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to rise 2.1% this year, which is up 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panel participants expect industrial output to expand 2.5%, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate.
