Portugal: Growth in industrial production decelerates in February

March 30, 2017

In February, industrial production increased 2.1% annually, which was down from the revised 3.4% expansion in January (previously reported: +2.7% year-on-year). February’s slowdown was caused by contraction in the mining and electricity, gas and water sectors, while the manufacturing sector grew in February compared to the prior month.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, in February industrial production decreased 0.7%, which contrasted the 0.4% rise recorded in January. Annual average growth in industrial production was 1.2% in February, mirroring January’s figure.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to rise 1.8% this year, which is up 0.5 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panel participants expect industrial output to expand 1.7%.
