Portugal: Economy stagnates in Q3

In Q3, GDP recorded zero growth over the previous quarter, according to a flash estimate released by Statistics Portugal on 13 November. The result came in below the 0.5% increase tallied in Q2 and marked the worst performance since Q1 2014.

On an annual basis, GDP expanded 1.4% in Q3, which was slightly below Q2’s 1.6% rise. More detailed data are scheduled to be released on 30 November.

The Bank of Portugal expects the economy to expand 1.7% in 2015 and 1.9% in 2016. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect that GDP will expand 1.6% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2016, the panel expects economic growth to accelerate to 1.7%.
