Portugal: Economy expands modestly in Q4

In Q4, GDP recorded 0.2% growth over the previous quarter, according to a flash estimate released by Statistics Portugal on 12 February. The result came in above the flat reading tallied in Q3.

On an annual basis, GDP expanded 1.2% in Q4, which was slightly below Q3’s 1.4% rise and marked the lowest performance in a year. More detailed data are scheduled to be released on 29 February.

The Bank of Portugal expects the economy to expand 1.7% in 2016 and 1.8% in 2017. FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect that GDP will expand 1.6% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel expects economic growth to accelerate to 1.7%.
