The consumer confidence index inched up from minus 18.5 points in July to minus 17.3 points in August, marking the highest value since April 2002. According to the Statistical Institute, the increase in consumer confidence reflected improvements in households’ unemployment perspectives and households’ view on the country’s economic situation.
