The consumer confidence index decreased from minus 24.0 points in July to minus 26.6 points in August, which marked the lowest reading in four months. According to the statistical institute, the deterioration in consumer confidence was driven by consumers’ expectations regarding the country’s economic situation and their perspectives on savings over the next year.

The economic climate indicator inched up in August, increasing from 0.5 points in July to 0.6 points, which marked the highest level since July 2008. Consequently, the indicator remains in optimistic territory.
