Portugal: Consumer confidence and economic climate improve slightly in May
May 29, 2015
The consumer confidence index inched up from minus 21.3 points in April to minus 20.2 points in May. According to the Statistical Institute, the increase in consumer confidence reflected an improvement in households’ unemployment expectations over the next 12 months. However, households’ views on their savings perspectives over the next 12 months and the general economic situation in the country over the next 12 months deteriorated in May.
The economic climate indicator remained in optimistic territory and inched up from 0.8 in April to 1.1 in May, which marked the highest print since May 2008.
