Portugal: Consumer and business confidence rise slightly in April

The 3-month moving average of consumer confidence rose slightly from minus 54.5 points in March to minus 53.3 points in April. Despite the improvement, the reading remains close to the historic low recorded in January. According to the statistical institute, the improvement in consumer confidence was driven by better prospects in all categories except for households' perspectives on the evolution of savings. Meanwhile, the 3-month moving average of business confidence improved from minus 22.9 points in March to minus 21.0 points in April. Finally, the 3-month moving average of the economic climate indicator inched up from minus 4.8 points in March to minus 4.7 points in April.
