Poland: Retail sales record anemic growth in September

October 19, 2015

In September, retail sales rose 0.1% over the same month last year, which contrasted August’s 0.3% decrease. However, it undershot the 1.4% rise that markets had expected. The rebound came on the back of better performances in four out of the nine categories that comprise the index compared to last month, with clothing and footwear recording the most significant improvement.

Despite the slight improvement, annual average growth in retail sales inched down from August’s 1.0% rise to a 0.9% increase in September, which marked a multi-year low.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.3% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel also sees private consumption expanding 3.3%, which is also unchanged from last month’s forecast.
