Poland: Retail sales increase in May

June 24, 2015

In May, retail sales grew 1.8% over the same month last year, contrasting the 1.5% decrease tallied in April and slightly overshooting the 1.7% increase that the markets had expected. The expansion mainly reflected an increase in sales of motor vehicles and newspapers.

Despite May’s increase, annual average growth in retail sales continued on the downward trend that began in May 2014. Annual average growth inched down from 1.2% in April to 1.1% in May, which marked a multi-year low.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.2% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.4%.
