Poland: Retail sales increase in June

July 24, 2015

In June, retail sales grew 3.8% over the same month last year, which was above May’s 1.8% increase and overshot the 3.2% rise that markets had expected. The reading was the highest in over a year. The expansion mainly reflected an increase in sales of motor vehicles, which more than offset a fall in sales of household furniture.

As a consequence, annual average growth in retail sales grew for the first time since June 2014 and inched up from May’s 1.1% rise to a 1.3% increase in June, marking a three-month high.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.2% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.4%.
