Poland: Retail sales growth gains steam in April

May 24, 2016

In April, retail sales rose 3.2% over the same month last year, which was above March’s 0.8% increase. However, the reading undershot the 3.4% rise that markets analysts had expected. The acceleration partly came on the back of rising sales of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts as well as of textiles, clothing and footwear.

In addition, annual average growth in retail sales rose from 1.6% in March to 2.0% in April, which marked an over-one-year high.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.7% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel also sees private consumption expanding 3.6%.
