Poland: Retail sales growth accelerates in October

November 19, 2015

In October, retail sales rose 0.8% over the same month last year, which was above September’s 0.1% increase and marked a three-month high. The reading overshot the 0.6% rise that markets had expected. The acceleration came on the back of better performances in six of the nine categories that comprise the index, compared to last month, with clothing and footwear recording the most significant improvement.

Despite the improvement, annual average growth in retail sales inched down from September’s 0.9% to 0.8% in October, which marked a multi-year low.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.3% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel also sees private consumption expanding 3.3%, which is also unchanged from last month’s forecast.
