Poland: Retail sales fall in August

September 17, 2015

In August, retail sales fell 0.3% over the same month last year, which contrasted July’s 1.2% increase and undershot the 1.3% rise that markets had expected. The reading was the lowest in four months. The deceleration came on the back of poorer performances in all categories compared to last month, with household appliances recording the sharpest decline.

As a consequence, annual average growth in retail sales inched down from July’s 1.2% rise to a 1.0% increase in August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.5% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel also sees private consumption expanding 3.5%.
