Poland: Retail sales accelerate in August

September 25, 2017

Retail sales rose 7.6% from the same month a year earlier in August, accelerating from July’s 7.1% increase. August’s rise was primarily driven by higher food and fuel sales, while vehicle sales decelerated markedly in the month.

August’s acceleration contributed to an uptick in the annual trend, with average annual growth in retail sales increasing from 7.1% in July to 7.3% in August—marking the highest reading in nearly five years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 4.4% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.8%, which is up 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
