Poland: Growth in retail sales ticks up in May

In May, retail sales rose 8.4% over the same month of 2016, picking up from April’s 8.1% growth. Sales across all categories were robust, with fuels and apparel recording particular strong gains.

Moreover, May saw an improvement in the trend, as reflected by an increase in the average annual growth in retail sales from April’s 6.0% to 6.6%. This marked the highest reading in over four years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.7% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.2%.
