Poland: Growth in retail sales picks up in July

August 26, 2014

In July, retail sales expanded 2.1% over the same month last year. The expansion was above the 1.2% increase tallied in June. The result met market expectations. The faster growth was mainly driven by stronger sales of motor vehicles and pharmaceuticals, and at non-specialized retailers.

Despite the acceleration, annual average growth in retail sales fell from 4.4% in June to 4.2% in July. Average growth in retail sales had been on a steady upward trend since hitting a record low in August of last year.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 2.7% in 2014, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.3%.
