Poland: Growth in retail sales moderates in September

October 28, 2014

In September, retail sales expanded 1.6% over the same month last year. The expansion was slightly below the 1.7% increase recorded in August and undershot market expectations of a 2.4% rise. September’s result was mainly driven by weaker sales of clothing and footwear, food and beverages, as well as of fuels.

Annual average growth in retail sales inched down from 4.1% in August to 3.9% in September. Average annual growth in retail sales has been on a soft downward trend since May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 2.7% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.2%, which is also unchanged from last month’s forecast.
