Poland: Growth in retail sales hits over two-year high in August

September 20, 2016

In August, retail sales rose 5.6% over the same month last year, which was above July’s 2.0% increase and marked the largest expansion since April 2014. The reading overshot the 4.6% rise that markets analysts had expected. The acceleration came on the back of broad-based gains, with sales of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts recording a profound expansion.

Meanwhile, annual average growth in retail sales rose from July’s 2.2% to 2.7% in August, the highest reading since January 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.7% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.5%.
