Poland: Growth in retail sales eases in December

January 25, 2017

In December, retail sales in Poland rose 6.4% over the same month of 2015, which was slightly below November’s 6.6% increase. The reading overshot the 6.1% rise that markets analysts had expected. The result was partly driven by slower growth in sales of furniture, radio, television and household appliances as well as a decrease in sales at non-specialized stores.

The trend improved in December; annual average growth in retail sales rose from November’s 3.6% to 3.7%, the highest reading since October 2014.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.4% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.0%.
