Poland: Growth in retail sales accelerates to over two-year high in November

December 23, 2016

In November, retail sales rose 6.6% over the same month of 2015, which was notably above October’s 3.7% increase. The reading overshot the 4.8% rise that markets analysts had expected and marked the fastest growth since August 2014. The acceleration came largely on the back of a sharp pickup in sales of motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts. In addition, sales of food, beverages and tobacco products also gained steam.

Meanwhile, annual average growth in retail sales rose from October’s 3.3% to 3.6% in November, the highest reading since October 2014.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 3.4% in 2017, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.0%.
