Poland: Growth in retail sales accelerates in October

November 25, 2014

In October, retail sales expanded 2.3% over the same month last year. The expansion came in above the 1.6% rise tallied in September and slightly overshot market expectations of a 2.2% rise. October’s result was mainly driven by stronger sales of clothing and footwear, household equipment, as well as of newspapers and books.

Despite October’s annual increase, annual average growth in retail sales inched down from 3.9% in September to 3.8% in October. Average annual growth in retail sales has been on a soft downward trend since May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see private consumption growing 2.6% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel sees private consumption expanding 3.0%, which is also unchanged from last month’s forecast.
