Poland: Fall in annual consumer prices moderates slightly in June

According to a preliminary estimate released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) on 30 June, consumer prices in June increased 0.2% over the previous month, which was above the 0.1% increase recorded in May and was broadly in line with market analysts expectations.

In annual terms, consumer prices dropped 0.8% in June, which followed the 0.9% fall recorded in May. Inflation remains well below the Central Bank’s target of 2.5% with a tolerance margin of plus/minus 1.0 percentage point. Meanwhile, annual average inflation was stable at May’s minus 0.8%. More detailed data concerning consumer prices will be published on 11 July.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect consumer prices to fall 0.4% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2017, the panel expects inflation to average 1.5%.
