Poland: Fall in annual consumer prices moderates in April

According to a preliminary estimate released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) on 29 April, consumer prices in April increased 0.30% over the previous month, which was above the 0.13% increase recorded in March and marked the highest reading since April 2015. The reading matched market expectations.

In annual terms, consumer prices dropped 0.2% in April, coming above the 0.9% fall recorded in March and marking the highest reading since July 2014. However, inflation remains well below the Central Bank’s target of 2.5% with a tolerance margin of plus/minus 1.0 percentage point. Meanwhile, annual average inflation inched up from minus 0.8% in March to minus 0.7% in April. More detailed data concerning consumer prices will be published on 12 May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 0.8% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. In 2017, the panel expects inflation to accelerate to 1.2%.
