Poland: Decrease in annual consumer prices softens in December

According to a preliminary estimate released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) on 30 December, in December, consumer prices fell 0.2% over the previous month, which followed November’s 0.1% decrease and marked a three-month low. The reading was in line with market expectations. Consumer prices dropped 0.5% annually in December, which was slightly above the 0.6% drop tallied in November and marked the softest fall since September 2014. More detailed data will be released on 16 January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 0.7% in 2016, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel expects inflation to accelerate to 1.5%.
