Poland: Industrial production accelerates in March

In March, industrial production expanded 8.8% over the same month last year and came in above the 5.0% increase tallied in February. March’s reading overshot the 7.2% rise that the markets had expected. The print reflected a strong rebound in the mining and quarrying sector. Manufacturing and water supply growth rates accelerated as well compared to the same month last year.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production grew 0.8% in March, which was lower than from February’s 1.3% increase. As a consequence of March’s improved performance, annual average growth in industrial production inched up from 3.2% in February to 3.5% in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 4.5% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects growth in industrial production to accelerate to 5.6%.
