Poland: Industrial production accelerates in July

August 20, 2014

In July, industrial production expanded 2.3% over the same month last year. The increase was above the 1.7% reading tallied in June and also overshot market expectations of a 1.8% expansion. The acceleration reflected growth in the water supply and waste management category as well as gains in the manufacturing sector. Meanwhile, the mining and quarrying category registered another contraction.

On a month-on-month basis, industrial production expanded a seasonally-adjusted 1.1% in July, which was up from the 0.4% increase observed in June. The overall trend moderated, with annual average growth in industrial production falling from 4.6% in June to 4.3% in July.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 5.0% in 2014, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, the panel expects growth in industrial production to accelerate to 6.3%.
