Poland: Business confidence turns positive for the first time in seven months

April 27, 2012

According to the Central Statistical Office's Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS), the general business climate index rose for the fourth straight month from minus 0.6 points in March to plus 0.9 points in April. Thus, the index crossed above the zero-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism for the first time since September 2011. Despite the improvement, however, business confidence remains 3.4 points below the level observed in the same period last year. In general, businesses were mostly optimistic about their expected production levels as well as regarding both expected domestic and foreign order books. On the other hand, businesses were mostly pessimistic about their ability to pay current debts.
