Poland: Business confidence rebounds in January

January 26, 2016

The manufacturing sector business climate index rebounded from minus 1.1 points in December 2015 to plus 0.8 points in January 2016, according to the Central Statistical Office’s Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS). As a consequence of the drop, business confidence jumped above the zero-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

January’s increase reflected improvements in six of the nine sub-categories that comprise the index. In particular, the largest increases were recorded in expected employment, as well as anticipated production and foreign order books.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to expand 7.5% in 2016, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2017, the panel sees fixed investment expanding 6.2%.
