Poland: Business confidence plummets in November

November 28, 2016

The Polish manufacturing sector business climate index decreased from 1.0 point in October to minus 1.8 points in November, according to the Central Statistical Office’s Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS). The result marked the worst reading in nearly two years. Business confidence now lies below the zero-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism.

November’s deterioration came on the back of a fall in sentiment regarding the future general economic situation and outlook for production. In addition, firms were more pessimistic regarding their future financial situation.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to contract 2.1% in 2016, which is down 1.5 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2017, the panel sees fixed investment expanding 4.0%, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s projection.
