Poland: Business confidence moderates in May

May 26, 2015

The manufacturing sector business climate index inched down from 8.2 points in April to 7.5 points in May, according to the Central Statistical Office’s Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS). Nevertheless, business confidence remains comfortably above the zero-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

May’s moderation reflected a decrease in eight out of 10 sub-categories that comprise the index. The largest decreases were recorded in domestic and foreign order-books and production. Conversely, firms’ expectations regarding the general economic situation and financial situation improved slightly.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to expand 6.4% in 2015, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees fixed investment expanding 5.8%.
