Poland: Business confidence increases in August

August 24, 2015

The manufacturing sector business climate index increased from 5.8 points in July to 7.1 points in August, which represented a three-month high, according to the Central Statistical Office’s Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS). As a result, business confidence rests comfortably above the zero-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

August’s increase reflected improvements in five of the nine sub-categories that comprise the index. The largest increases were recorded in future production as well as future domestic and foreign order-books. Conversely, firms’ expectations regarding the current financial situation as well as their current production deteriorated slightly.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to expand 7.5% in 2015, which is up 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2016, the panel sees fixed investment expanding 6.2%.
