Poland: Business confidence improves but remains pessimistic in December

December 23, 2020

Manufacturing-sector business confidence came in at minus 14.8 in December, up notably from November's minus 20.5. As a result, the index moved closer to the 0-threshold, but still indicated pessimism among businesses.

December’s improvement largely came on the back of firms’ less pessimistic expectations of the future general economic situation, production levels, order books, employment as well as their future personal financial situation. Moreover, manufacturers’ views of the current general economic situation also turned less negative. Meanwhile, their appraisal of their current production levels, order books as well as of their personal financial situation soured.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to expand 3.9% in 2021, which is up 0.4 percentage points from last month’s estimate. For 2022, the panel sees fixed investment growth at 4.8%.
