Poland: Business confidence hits 19-month high in March

March 23, 2017

The manufacturing sector business climate index rose from 4.5 points in February to 6.4 points in March, according to the Central Statistical Office’s Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS). The result was the best seen since August 2015, taking the index further above the zero-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

The surge seen in March was driven by a significantly brighter outlook among businesses, with the forecasts for all sub-components improving further after February’s optimistic reading. Meanwhile, businesses’ assessment of the current situation was less upbeat, with production and new orders rebounding but the general economic situation still being sluggish.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 2.9% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. For 2018, the panel sees fixed investment expanding 5.0%.
