Poland: Business confidence further weakens in October

October 24, 2017

In October, the manufacturing sector business climate index fell to 4.6 points from 6.3 points a month earlier, according to the Business Tendency Survey released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS-BTS). Despite the weaker print, business confidence still remained healthily above the zero-point mark that separates optimism from pessimism in the manufacturing sector.

October’s decline was due to a deterioration in sentiment towards the forecast economic situation. Particularly, those surveyed had a less optimistic perspective on the outlook for domestic and export orders and production, their financial situation and employment. On the other hand, assessment of the current economic situation improved slightly, on the back of better assessments of current order books and production and despite a more pessimistic assessment of the existing financial situation.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 6.0% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. For 2019, the panel sees fixed investment expanding 4.1%.
