Poland: Business confidence falls to lowest level in nearly four years

December 27, 2012

According to the Central Statistical Office's Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS), the general business climate index fell to minus 14.3 points in December. The figure was down from the minus 9.1 points seen in November and represented the lowest level seen in almost four years. As a result, the index remained below the zero-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism for the sixth month in a row. Moreover, at the current level, business confidence is now 7.4 points below the level observed in the same period the year before.

In general, businesses were mostly pessimistic about their order-books as well as regarding expected production levels. On the other hand, respondents were optimistic regarding the expected selling prices of their products.
