Poland: Business confidence falls into negative territory in July

According to the Central Statistical Office's Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS), in July, the general business climate index fell to minus 3.1 points, down from plus 0.4 points seen in June. Consequently, the index plunged below the zero-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism for the first time since March. Moreover, at the current level, business confidence is now 6.2 points below the level observed in the same period last year. In general, businesses were mostly pessimistic about their ability to pay current debts as well as their current foreign order-books. On the other hand, respondents were mostly optimistic regarding their expected foreign order-books as well as their expected production levels.
