Philippines: Inflation eases to 30-month low in March

In March, consumer prices rose 0.23% over the previous month, which contrasted the flat reading observed in February. The result mainly reflected an increase in housing as well as in transport prices. As a result, annual headline inflation inched down from 2.7% in February to 2.6% in March, the lowest inflation rate observed since October 2009. Annual average inflation, which is the reference rate used by the Central Bank as a guide for monetary policy, followed suit and edged down from 4.6% in February to 4.4% in March. The Central Bank expects inflation to settle within its target of 4.0%
