Peru: Businesses expectations rise markedly in December
January 15, 2014
Businesses confidence increased markedly and reached an eight-month high in December according to the Central Bank's business confidence indicator. The index increased from the 54 points tallied in November to 59 points. This is the fourth consecutive month in which the indicator has remained above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.
The largest increase was registered in businesses' expectations for demand conditions in the next three months. In addition, businesses were more optimistic regarding the previous month's sales performance. Conversely, businesses' perceptions of the previous month's inventories and purchase orders declined.
FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 7.5% this year, which is unchanged from last month's forecast. For 2015, panel participants see investment growing 6.8%.
