Peru: Business sentiment remains stuck in pessimistic territory in November

December 11, 2015

Business confidence came in at 44.8 points in November, according to the Central Bank’s business confidence indicator. The result is marginally below the 45.0 points registered in October. Business confidence has been below the 50-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory since June.

Businesses had broadly unchanged expectations for the economy in the next three months but expressed more optimism about the coming 12 months. They had weaker expectations regarding their particular sectors and their own businesses in the following three months. Opinions regarding hiring and product demand in the coming quarter were also down.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect fixed investment to fall 3.3% this year, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panel participants see investment growing 1.3%.
