Peru Business Confidence December 2015

Peru: Business sentiment inches down in December

January 7, 2016

Business confidence came in at 44.6 points in December, according to the Central Bank’s business confidence indicator. The result is marginally below the 44.8 points registered in November. Business confidence has been below the 50-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory since June 2015.

Businesses had broadly unchanged expectations for the economy in the next three months but expressed slightly more optimism about the current situation. However, opinions regarding hiring in the coming quarter were down from the previous month.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect fixed investment to fall 1.2% this year, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panel participants see investment growing 3.6%.
