Peru: Business sentiment deteriorates in January

Business confidence came in at 42.5 points in January, according to the Central Bank’s business confidence indicator. The result is below the 44.6 points registered in December. Business confidence has been below the 50-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory since June 2015.

Businesses opinions regarding the economy in the next three months and the current situation deteriorated slightly. However, opinions regarding access to credit and the business’ financial situations were up from the previous month.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect fixed investment to fall 1.2% this year, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panel participants see investment growing 3.6%.
