Peru: Business more optimistic in November

December 9, 2014

Business confidence came in at 55.3 points in November, according to the Central Bank’s business confidence indicator. The result was an improvement over the 53.0 points registered in October and marked the highest level in nine months. Business confidence is now a bit further above the 50-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory.

Businesses expressed more positive sentiment regarding the outlook for the economy as a whole in the next three months, although the outlook for their particular sectors was unchanged. In contrast, businesses’ expectations for the economy in the coming 12 months moderated. Firms’ plans for new hiring increased only marginally, while their opinions regarding their current situations and production levels weakened compared to last month.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 0.1% this year, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panel participants see investment growing 3.9%, which is unchanged from last month’s projection.
