Peru: Business confidence ticks back up into optimistic territory in July

August 8, 2014

Business confidence ticked up to 50.6 points in July according to the Central Bank’s business confidence indicator. The result marked a modest improvement over the 49.7 points registered in June, which was the lowest reading since August 2013. As a result of the mild increase, business confidence is now back in optimistic territory.

The improvement in confidence was driven by businesses’ slightly more positive views regarding their current financial situations and the general standing of their businesses. In contrast, firms’ forward looking outlook in terms of product demand, new hiring, and business sector performance in the months ahead weakened compared to the previous month.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 5.8% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panel participants see investment growing 6.8%.
