Peru: Business confidence moderates in October

November 7, 2014

Business confidence recorded 53.0 points in September, according to the Central Bank’s business confidence indicator. The result marked a slight decline over the 54.0 points registered in September, although business confidence remains above the 50-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic territory.

Businesses expressed somewhat less positive sentiment regarding the outlook for the economy as a whole in the coming months, and were also less upbeat regarding the outlook for their particular sectors. Firms’ expectations in terms of demand for products and their plans for new hiring were also down. In contrast, businesses’ opinions about their current situation strengthened compared to the last month.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panelists expect fixed investment to grow 0.1% this year, which is down 1.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2015, panel participants see investment growing 3.9%, which is down 1.1 percentage points from last month’s projection.
